THIS IS NOT A LEISURELY MOTORCYCLE RUN. IT REQUIRES ENDURANCE AND CONSISTENCY IN NON-RIDING SITUATIONS
This is a training run for an upcoming IBA Saddlesore 1000 miles in 24 hrs. endurance challenge. The Saddlesore is the entry-level challenge to join the Iron Butt Association. The average mph for a Saddlesore is 42 mph so speeding isn't necessary. It's all about non-riding time management. A Saddlesore usually can be completed in 18 - 20 hrs. barring any breakdowns or delays due to construction, road closures, and traffic congestion.
This training run will follow the Long Distance Endurance Challenge Protocol except there won't be a Rest and Lunch stop due to it only being a 10 hr. run. Snacks and food you can eat while riding will be necessary. Fluids for hydrating are an absolute necessity.
The proper Long Distance Endurance Challenge Protocol is as follows:
1. No speeding greater than 6 mph over the posted speed limit.
2. Refueling stops will be no longer than 10 minutes on average and include
a.Fill the tank with fuel
b. Take a photo of the receipt and odometer
c. Record stop in the ledger
d. Repack motorcycle and hydrate
e. bio break if necessary
3. Rest and Lunch stop to be no longer than 1 hr. (Can be extended if you're ahead of schedule)
4. No matter the number of riders starting this run, it is a solo run with several riders doing the same solo run at the same time. All riders are on their clock. The clock starts at the beginning fuel receipt and ends at the last fuel receipt.
a. Riders requiring more time at a fueling stop will be left behind.
b. If an accident or breakdown occurs other riders will proceed on the run after assuring help is on the way and the rider is stable and safe.
c. Plan your ride and ride your plan.
5. Each rider is responsible for themselves and all events that may occur to them while on this run, and will not hold Nomadslastride.com or any person associated with this website responsible for such events. A Release of Responsibility form will be available at the start of this run and must be filled out before participating in this event.
